The lack clarity in regards for some legal issues is the only thing that keeps me from running aforementioned data depository.
Given that you collect both, the link and a snapshot of an article, how bad the copyright provision can hit one who keeps the snapshot after the article was removed (or modified) by the author?
Any idea?

The federal law, last I checked, permits a fair use of a copyrighted material, such as an article. Fair use is usually defined as any copying of copyrighted material done for a limited and “transformative” purpose, such as to comment upon, criticize, or parody a copyrighted work. Such uses can be done without permission from the copyright owner.

I give away the original link to the owner's public website, I quote a little portion of the article at the link for criticizing or commenting. It used to be fair use, but since you've mentioned it – I am not at all that sure now :(
